About English Turn - New Orleans, LA
Although the private, gated, golf course community of English Turn is less than thirty years old, the area known as English Turn dates back to the Spring of 1699, when war raged between England and France.
The exploration and colonization of the Mississippi River were prime concerns for both countries. France had established a small colony along the Mississippi near New Orleans. England, anxious to control the river, dispatched a warship to invade the French Settlement.
Iberville and Bienville, the French colonists, realizing the impact of the invasion by the English, dispatched a small convoy to the British warship anchored below New Orleans. Bienville, approaching the English captain, warned him to depart immediately or face a large-scale military battle. The English turned the warship around and returned to England, thus the area became known as English Turn.
English Turn is just 8 miles from the French Quarter and the Central Business District. It provides an easy commute for its residents who principally work in the downtown area.
The Community of English Turn is distinctly different — and it is a distinction that draws people here and makes it difficult to imagine living elsewhere.
What are the principal things that make a community a place you want to call home? Accessibility to work, good schools, safety, affordable yet custom-built homes, community amenities and a welcoming community. English Turn has it all.
