Old Jefferson Community Information
Old Jefferson, as it’s often called, stretches along the Mississippi for about three square miles toward Metairie. It’s comfortably nestled between Orleans Parish and Harahan, and is home to neighborhood parks, restaurants, historic oak trees, shopping centers, and many other amenities that make Jefferson the perfect place to raise a family.
Jefferson is home to some surprisingly diverse architecture, as the land was once home to the early settlers who moved away from New Orleans proper and into a more country-esque setting. The culture and history of this community began to blossom and grow in the 1960s and 70s, so many of the homes are representative of that era. In fact, this development of Jefferson Parish real estate has lead to a wide variety of property options showing up, including ranchers, cottages, and single-family homes on larger lots. With time, Jefferson has begun to offer larger, multi-bedroom homes with open floor plans on estate-sized lots, as well as condominium developments and restored mansions.
What continues to make Jefferson so unique among New Orleans-area and Jefferson Parish neighborhoods is its close-knit community where the crime rate is especially low, and where residents take pride in their historic and peaceful surroundings.
