Lakeview Community Information

Beginning in the 1960s, families began leaving New Orleans proper for the new neighborhoods of Lakeview in search of more modern architecture. These families found picturesque cottages, sprawling ranch-style homes of brick and custom-built homes with backyard pools and circular driveways. These architectural styles have now been paired with many newly built homes, offering those interested in Lakeview real estate a selection of styles and prices.

Properties in Lakeview often have spacious yards, private driveways, backyard pools, and they offer a good deal of security and privacy. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, residents showed their resiliency and deep appreciation for the area by working together to restore their beautiful community and make it better than ever.

The area is also distinguished by Lake Pontchartrain, which runs along the entire northern expanse of Lakeview and gave the neighborhood its name. The lake is enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts along Lakeshore Drive, and it is accessible to boaters and yachters from various points near the Southern Yacht Club and the refurbished "point" near the renovated Lighthouse landmark.

Visitors to Lakeview and locals alike also enjoy the beautiful, expansive New Orleans City Park, which offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, golfing, tennis, horseback riding, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Storyland and Carousel Amusement Areas, one of the nation's finest dog parks, and more.

Lakeview on the Map

Lakeview Features

From the winding bayous and lagoons of City Park to the blue waters of Lake Pontchartrain, you won't find a more naturally beautiful neighborhood in the city. Residents love picnicking on sunny days by the lake, strolling, jogging, or biking on the abundance of lovely walkways and bike paths in the parks, and getting out on the lake for a day of fishing. City Park is home to some of the oldest live oaks in the city, and its Botanical Gardens and Arboretum are havens for nature lovers.

Due to the rise in interest in Lakeview real estate over the past decade, the Harrison Avenue, Robert E. Lee Boulevard, and West End corridors have become true community fixtures. They feature renowned restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, and retail. Homes for sale in this area are ideal for those who value convenience and accessibility.

Gardeners and landscapers also consider Lakeview one of the city's most sought-after neighborhoods, including the sunken gardens along Canal Boulevard and lush walking paths that connect many neighborhood homes and gardens. Public and private grounds are filled with some of the hardiest breeds of southern flowers, shrubbery and trees.
