Michael Verderosa

Michael Verderosa, MPS - Realtor, has over 15 years of experience in sales/marketing and historic preservation consulting. For information about buying or selling a property, please contact Mike at Historic504@gmail.com or 504-250-5789.

A native of Vermont, Mike moved to Algiers Point, New Orleans, in 2004 while enrolled in graduate school at Tulane. He has also lived in the Lower French Quarter and in the Washington, DC metro area, while working as a consultant to the federal government and as a Realtor in Bethesda, MD.
Mike holds a Master's in Preservation Studies from Tulane University, where he earned the first known 4.0 in the history of the program. As an undergrad, he studied Architecture at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and matriculated with a B.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University at Albany. He has been published twice on topics relating to historic architecture in the City of New Orleans.

As a very active resident of Algiers Point, he spends an average of 20- to 25- hours per week volunteering for his community: Mike is the 2015 Vice President of Operations for the Algiers Point Association, for which he plans and manages all APA events (First Fridays on the Point, Movies on the Point, Holidays on the Point, and the Fall Home Tour 2015, among other events); he sits on the Advisory Board for the Old Algiers Main Street Corporation, and also volunteers for their Building Blocks neighborhood revitalization committee; Mike also recently joined the board of Confetti Kids, an Algiers Point neighborhood group focused on developing parks and playgrounds for the youngest generations of Algerines.

Prior to becoming a licensed Realtor, Mike worked for the world's largest engineering consulting firm as a Senior Architectural Historian and City/Preservation Planner. From 2007 through 2011, he managed a team of environmental and historic preservation consultants for FEMA in New Orleans, Louisiana, in their recovery efforts post-Hurricane Katrina: his team of architects, architectural historians, archaeologists, and environmental/wetlands specialists successfully reviewed over 50,000 properties within the State of Louisiana for which federal funding was sought. Upon demobilizing from the Louisiana Recovery Office, Mike was promoted to national lead for his firm's historic preservation support to FEMA, and managed federal deployment requests and project oversight for up to 320 professional employees, nationwide.

In addition to his volunteer work, in his spare time, Mike enjoys running on the Algiers Point levees, antique (and junk) shopping in the French Quarter, and keeping his favorite Algiers Point bartenders very busy and well-paid. He shares his home with four NOLA-rescue doggies, all of whom were strays he has found on the streets and levees of New Orleans: Woodreaux Wilson, a four-year old hound/pit mix; Betty Ford, an eight year old gentle giant pit mix; Lady Bird Johnson, a seven-year old French Bulldog/pibble mix; and his latest foster fail, John F. Kennedy, an adorable ~eight-year old AmStaff mix.
